Current Obsession: Fall Fashion Fever

While it breaks my heart to kiss the lazy, sunny days of summer goodbye, at the same time, I can’t help but feel excited about the changing season. Here’s how I’m prepping for fall:

1. Closet transitioning:
Even though it still feels like summer–and in fact, it actually is until September 23rd–the end of August might as well mark the beginning of autumn (which of course means: cooler temps, falling leaves, venti pumpkin spice lattes, and yes, an excuse to reinvent your entire wardrobe). I know, the sun is still shining, and to all appearances it would seem like this heat wave could go on forever, but this is exactly the time to hit the stores and start pulling fall pieces that you can wear now to help mix up and extend the wear of your summer staples. It’s fun, it’s smart, and it breathes new life into your closet. This way, you also avoid having to rush out and buy everything all at once when it’s suddenly freezing.

2. Head-to-toe earth tones:
Fall is probably my favourite season fashion-wise. Think about it, when else do you get to play with so many different layers and textures? And with an undying loyalty to neutrals, it’s no surprise that I personally love mimicking the palette of the September/October/Novembe landscape with rich earth and jewel-toned pieces. My love affair with taupes, greens, rusts, creams and grays extends beyond my clothing, shoes and handbags, and usually also finds its way to the tips of my fingers and toes.

3. Accessories, accessories, accessories:
While I am somewhat of a minimalist in my styling, in the past few years I have developed a deep affection for jewelery, and other small accessories. Because the upcoming season allows you to look more “put together,” you can be bolder and more experimental with the finishing touches to any outfit. What looks heavy and overdone in the summer looks perfect and season appropriate in the fall.
